Finish up in China and heading home to Phoenix

I had a busy day so far.  It is still June 29 and though it is only 10:00 am, I have already spent 25 hours on June 29.  There was a dateline crossover at some point around the earlier part of that, but, it is nice to gain a day on the way home.

This morning I met with another Beijing attorney, Ms. Janet Hui, a partner with Jun He Law, one of China’s largest.  She just returned from Hong Kong late last night, so I greatly appreciated her meeting me before I dashed to the airport this morning.

The Beijing airport is new and beautiful.  Though the line was extremely long this morning to get checked in, it only took 20 minutes to process through everyone.  It looked a little scary when I first arrived.  The flight was uneventful, except it did not get dark at all.  We flew up north through Alaska and so had no nighttime hours, even though we flew east.

I am waiting at SFO – San Francisco Airport now for my flight in another 30 minutes to get to Phoenix.  This miracle of air travel and the incredible number of people who are traveling…. Amazing!

This past few days in Beijing I had a couple of send-off get togethers with the office.  A number of the attorneys took me out to the Bell and Drum on Monday evening.  I had soda and they had beer.  They were a bit concerned that I would not enjoy the evening if I was not drinking, but we had a really good time and visited for about 5 hours.  The Bell and Drum restaurant was perfect!

Tuesday I had a wonderful dinner and conversation with Mr. Zou, the Senior Managing Partner at Sinowing Law.  He took me to a Taiwanese restaurant.  I had food I have not eaten for years, the familiar flavors were very delightful and included some imported Taiwanese apple soda.  A real treat and a great opportunity to talk about the things going on in China and the opportunities that might be realized between us even now.  I am excited to see where this might go.
