The Great Wall
Beijing is just a $3 train ride to the Great Wall. I met Lin Yong who was also arriving at the wall solo. He works just outside Tianjin, his wife and daughter living with his parents where she works in a small factory job and he has a better job in a bigger city, so they don't see each other as often as they would like. They communicate primarily with texting. Had a good hike for a couple of hours.
The wall was amazing. The place I hiked was mostly refurbished, better than new, but still a breathtaking sight and a beautiful place.

Just showed James your whole blog -- he LOVED the pictures of the Great Wall and the food at the market. He missed seeing you this week but he's really excited that you get to be in China!
